  1. Hi, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you all have a nice evening...
This week. my original opinion is: I disagree that governments should own rights to censor art and media...

    Here are my reasons:

Firstly, art and media are both the indispensable elements in our society.
Art,cultivate our civilization. Media, facilitate our communication. It can't be imaged that if they disappear from our beautiful world.

Secondly, art and media should be independent. With too much restrictions, art could be prevented from progressing and media would unable to publicize the truths in society.

The third, governments belong to citizens. They do not belong to any political parties and classes. They have to 'serve for people'.Art and media could not be used as a tools as political slave for political purposes. They have to be respondsable for the civilians.

    H O W E V E R,
that not means governments should leave them away to make them completely independent. In case of necessity, governments should censor art and media if they spreading negative information and ideologies. Such as, porn, violence, terrorism, heresy and so on.

Instead, governments should support their works (art & media) in order to maintain the further, peaceful and harmonious development of the countries.

  3. I agree some of the parts of Joe`s opinion and one thing I disagree as well. In my words that art is comprised endless and independent subjects and acts. No one even also any foundation such as government should not interfere in it. Art is as a mean that creativity. No one can interfere in human`s ability or restrict on. Even though art caters to specific group of people who working in. Generally art is not widespread with the public as much as the media.

On the other hand, Media caters every single person whether this person work in art or not. That`s why, I disagree that point which is government should the right to centor on one kind of media that only public TV. The important thing I defend that is child development. In this case government should has rights on with it. In contrast with, should not have the rights to censor of the other elements of media such as cinema, magazine, newspaper, radio..

Overall, not only art, any case which is connected with public TV should consider of child development

  5. Government should not over censor media and arts spheres.,

According to my experience, I can not access facebook in my country because of goverment consoring, Until now, I am not sure why facebook are prohibited to access in China,,,,,, Athough there are several types of social network websites in China, it is unable to help me to keep in touch with my foreign frineds on line because all it is in Chinese.
Second sad story is,..., actually, there were some interesting Chinese programs that broadcasted on tv last year but it was banned due to government interference.....however, the reason of prohibition government provided are not acceptable for audiences... Thus, over consoring of govenment in media and arts might be result of decrease of audience ratio and also it is the barriers to prompt culture level.

Last but not at least, I hope I can access all the website legally in my country some day...

  6. Hi everyone~ I hope all of us can finish all the homework as soon as possible~
According to this topic, I have some sympathetic responses as I like art and media. But I still will give objective opinions.

First of all, I agree with all the three members above me as they all talked about the ideas what I want to say. I don’t think government could use his power to do such kind thing. They should think more about the economy of country, unemployment, poor people’s life those who don’t have enough money or equipments that they can’t enjoy art and media, etc. There are so many big businesses they should solve at present.

Next as Ayca said, “art is comprised endless and independent subjects and acts.” It’s the business about human beings’ free. Nothing or no one can interfere this. Although there are some artists having bad intent on art, they still create some works for the world. About the media, it has advantages overweight disadvantages for our lives. It plays an important role at all. I can’t image if there is no media in the world. How can I live for tomorrow or the future? On the other hand, media records our every step to the future.

The final point I want to say is though government have big power and many rights to control country, the most important thing is to keep people living in a happiness life.

    That’s all~ 3Q~

  7. Hi every one, good evening. I think a lot of you are not sleeping now because the easy which we need finish in next week. I also don’t finish as usual~ :p

About this topic, I partly agree with the all comments. In my opinion, governments have the right to censor art and media. Because of people should consider the influence of art and media. There are many art and media works including violence, sexy and fantasy. These will engender bad effect. Especially the teenager and kid, they may learn and copy the behaviour what they saw. This can lead serious consequence for them. So government should limit even ban some art and media to prevent the things just I said.

But to be honest, I don’t like all the art and media works I can choice were adopted by the government. Like Jason said, we can’t use facebook in our country. I think the government is worried about some negative opinion will affect the user because most of them are young people. Government can not control what they say and submit, so they only can ban it in our country. I don’t think I can easily be affected by some one said or some videos, it is impossible.

Whatever, I still think government should censor art and media, for people, for society.

    Thank you

    Regards

  8. Hi, guys...

For this topic, I agree governments have the right to censor art and the media, even though I partly agree with Joe's opinion!

Fist of all, although the art and media should be independent of governments, however, governments still have right to censor. The reason is if without censoring, perhaps there will be lots of irresponsible anarchism around us, moreover to disintegrate the societies and countries. This will cause people live in a muddled and in-safety environment.

Secondly, even though I agree with the topic; however, I agree what Jason said "Government should not 'over' censor media and arts."

Overall, I think due to maintain social security in a stable and safe standard, governments have the right to censor art and the media; but should be based on the premise that do not 'over' censoring!

  9. Hi everyone,

In my personal view, art & media is a kind of language or expression. Every people deserve freedom of speech and right to express. This is the fundamental of human rights. It should not be taken away from anyone even by the government. Hence, I’m opposing on the government censorship and I agree with Joe’s opinion.

Since freedom always reflects a society’s civilization, stepping into this will be an obstacle on the development of a nation. If freedom of media is being interfered, opportunity to reveal the truth and know the truth will be carried away. Government censors certain issue by government officials' intrude opinion, but it may not reflect the thoughts of majority people. However, it is true that some of the arts, media publications or broadcasts are influencing us negatively, incurring horrify emotions, disturbances or angers.

In conclusion, I think the user or the community should be the one censoring itself, while the government should act as a monitor on any abusive use of this human right.

    Thanks,
    Winnie

  10. Hey everyone,

I think that government shouldn’t censor the art and media. Most of the censors used in the art and media are music and television. These censors exist to protect children from violence, imitation, etc... Most of the governments already allowed them, but in a specific time like after midnight or with a warning “+18 or this program may include violence” .So instead of censoring TV programs, it is logical to put some warning before the program starts to warn the spectators like children. Also you can see many songs which got two version like a “clean version” and “dirty version”. Music is an art and if it is edited by government with censoring it, it will be no more art!

I think that it isn’t necessary to censor the media and art. Unfortunately human race has already an instinct like violence, love, fear, etc...I want to give another example with “the imitation” as I mentioned before. I saw many news about the death of the children after they watched the cartoon-series “Pokémon”. They started to act like these stupid and cute little things and thought that they could fly like them. The result is: “Dead”. So the government took away the cartoon-series from the TV broadcast. Now can you ask yourself that “Pokémon” included violence or not? Whether the government censors or not, one day the children will grow up and they will wake up “the violence” which is sleeping since very long time :)

I totally agree with Winnie who said that “the user or the community should be the one censoring itself”.

If I will be honest, I would like to say that it is impossible to live with this naivety.

Wake up and come to the real world!!

    P.M: I might criticize hardly, but I
talked the truth :) So please don’t judge me :)

    Best Regards,

  13. Hi everyone,

In my opinion i think we cannot agree or disagree with this topic because it depends on several parameters such as the culture, religion, political situation and many more. For example in muslim countries which are many and i would note give a list to count them it is really inapropriete for them to allow art and media without any restructions for morality reasons such as nudity on screen or even in the field of art. However, they tend to exagerete in term of restrictions which may undermine the strict minimum of freedom.

On the other hand i join Joe's opinion who has described perfectly the importance of art and media in our society

    best regards

  14. It is a wide topic. Art is totally different from media. About media; If a government censor something for example a new book about politics which is written by a journalist, that book will be read much more than if it had not been censored, because you can not stop people. It was an eaxmple from real life. Censored things generally take more attention.
